Author and Physicist Alan Lightman talks about his book Searching for Stars on an Island in Maine with EconTalk host Russ Roberts. This is a wide-ranging conversation on religion, science, transcendence, consciousness, impermanence, and whether matter is all that matters.

This episode is emblematic of the struggle I’m having with philosophy reading or podcasts – the introduction to everything seems familiar, thanks to that long ago reading of Sophie’s World, and more recently thanks to Existential Comics, and anything more detailed seems too frightening or abstruse.

This episode was very much on the covering-the-basics side of the spectrum, and felt frustrating because of that. I may have been a little extra hostile to it because Lightman’s accent was very difficult to get through.
