- I honestly don’t remember where I learned about this book. Goodreads newsletter? Flash Forward podcast? I think so. The Intersection podcast episode about the Spanish flu. I don’t think so, but memory is fickle.
- About two months after reading this, I don’t remember all that much (I had completely forgotten to annotate and journal it at the time of reading). It had lots of fantastic bits that I’ve highlighted in anticipation of turning into quiz questions. Larger themes, though? Can’t really think of any at this moment.
- Okay, so I guess one of the larger themes is that the Spanish Flu is underappreciated for how long a shadow it’s cast. It affected demographics, and economics, and the second and third order effects of that are still playing out.
- And also that the reservoir for a virus is the animal that has evolved immunity to it. Obvious when you think about it, but I would never have thought of this until reading it.
