- This was an odd episode where Helen Jenkins did almost nothing but agree with whatever Alice was saying, and almost the entire first two thirds of the episode were Alice speaking about things rather than asking Helen about things. But since Alice was recovering from tonsilitis and an infection, maybe she was under the weather, needed to vent, and who can’t forgive the occasional break from protocol every one episode in a while?
- Alice Fraser thinks cultural appropriation is a problem only in the USA and it’s silly for the rest of the world to go along with it; my position is more that we shouldn’t look at any sort of fandom, learning, trying out things – especially things which are freely sold in trade – as cultural appropriation. Selling Indian food while you’re a white guy? Eh, maybe, but it’s something to eyeroll at and not outrage at. And as a third world me-too manufacturer, I have an even more cynical position that white people selling Indian food will do the hard work of creating a market for authentic Indian food made and sold by Indians, and we should thank them for risking their white money.
